The trigger in the outboard engine is a critical component for controlling the timing of the ignition system. Its working principle is to use a magnet installed on the flywheel to detect the position of the engine crankshaft. When these magnets pass through the trigger coil, the trigger sends a low voltage signal to the power pack or switch box.
This signal accurately tells the ignition system when to release stored energy to the ignition coil, which then generates the spark required to ignite the fuel air mixture in the engine cylinder. The timing of sparks is crucial and must be adjusted according to the engine speed to ensure optimal performance. If the trigger fails, it may cause the engine to fail to start, misfire, or lose power during operation.
