Convert the low voltage of the battery into the high voltage required to ignite the fuel mixture. This component is crucial in the ignition system and can serve as a power source to ensure that your engine starts when needed.
Its working principle is as follows: the ignition coil is essentially a high-voltage transformer. It has a primary winding, which is a series of coils directly connected to the engine power supply. When you turn the key, current flows from the battery through these windings. Due to the nature of the connection and coil, this flow generates a magnetic field around the iron core at the center of the coil.
When you cut off the power, the magnetic field will quickly disappear. The sudden disappearance of the magnetic field will generate high voltage on the secondary winding of the coil. This voltage is much higher than the original output of the battery - enough to generate sparks and ignite the fuel in the engine.
This process can ensure the smooth operation of the outboard engine. If there is no properly functioning ignition coil, the engine will not produce the spark required to burn fuel, which means the engine cannot travel quickly.
