There's so much more to discover in our work. As a salesperson, I have the privilege of meeting amazing people from all over the world, gaining much more than just profit from these connections. Today, I want to share one of the most surprising and rewarding stories from my career-my friendship with Lesley.
It all began on November 30th, 2018, when Steven (Lesley's husband) reached out for a 2-stroke 40hp outboard motor for their 4-meter-long boat. After several email exchanges, we confirmed all the details. Then, one day, just after I sent a Christmas card with my well wishes, Lesley replied, attaching a beautiful picture of her window blinds. From that moment, Lesley and I began exchanging emails, and our friendship blossomed.

Friendship Begins with a Motor
Lesley has a fantastic sense of humor and a lively personality. During our communication, there were a few funny moments. For instance, she tried transferring payment three times, but the bank wasn't processing it. It turned out that she attempted to transfer in RMB and AUD, while our invoice listed USD. Lesley, however, wasn't worried at all. In fact, she joked, "Where's my money now? I think the fairies have it!" Her humor always made our exchanges more enjoyable.
We shared photos of landscapes, food, animals, and more. Once, she sent me a breathtaking picture and said, "This just inspires you to take better photos." I like to think that I do take good pictures, but her compliment made me smile.
We also exchanged stories about our lives and the differences between Chinese and Australian cultures. Our friendship grew, not just over the motor, but through these shared experiences.

The Motor Arrives, and the Fun Continues
When Lesley finally received the motor, she sent me a picture as promised. She jokingly said, "Omg, I so need a makeover. Did I ever tell you I'm older than a dinosaur?" To which I replied, "You are not old at all, Lesley!"

Lesley also sent me a copy of her local newspaper, which featured a story about the National Holiday. In return, I sent her a photo of me holding the front page of the same newspaper. Guess what? She sent the photo to the editor-and the next thing I knew, I was in the Australian newspaper! That was one of the best experiences of 2019. Though, I must admit, I still feel like I could use a makeover!

A Perfectly "Weird" Gift
In the spirit of friendship, I decided to surprise Lesley with a gift. Without letting her know what it was, I chose a beautiful fan. She later emailed me, saying, "Now, here's the 'weird' thing. When you sent the email saying you were thinking of what to send me, I thought to myself, 'one of those fans would be nice.' The only kind I knew was the Spanish-style ones that open. Then you sent me a fan! Honestly, my jaw dropped. It's so beautiful and has a bird on it. It's perfect for the room where I'll hang it!"
We laughed about the coincidence, and she framed the fan and proudly displayed it on her wall. It was as if we had a perfect connection without even realizing it!

This story is just one of the many surprises and rewards that come with working in this field. Beyond the products, it's the people and the friendships that make the journey worthwhile. Thank you, Lesley, for being such a wonderful part of my story.
