About Outboards
For a boat designed to carry 7 people, you'll generally want marine outboard engines with enough horsepower to ensure safety and good performance. Here are some recommendations:
1.50hp to 90hp:
-This range is typically suitable for larger boats (around 16 to 20 feet). A 50hp engine can work for lighter boats, while a 75hp or 90hp engine provides more power for heavier loads or rougher waters.
2.Specific Recommendations:
- Bay Boats or Center Console Boats: These often do well with 60hp to 90hp engines.
- Pontoon Boats: Depending on the size, a 40hp to 90hp engine can be suitable. Larger pontoons (20 feet and above) may benefit from 70hp or more.
- Skiffs or Jon Boats: A 40hp to 60hp engine might be adequate, but ensure the boat is rated for that load.
3.Considerations:
- Weight Capacity: Always check the boat's weight capacity, which includes passengers, gear, and fuel.
- Water Conditions: For rough waters, a higher horsepower engine is advisable for better performance and safety.
It's important to consult the boat manufacturer or dealer to determine the best engine size based on the specific boat model and its intended use.
